The steel rail is used to guide the train wheels for rolling and running, it can withstand the enormous stress that the passing trains passed by and transfer to the sleepers and ballast. Steel rail is the main component of railway. It can be classified into heavy rail and light rail, what’s the difference between heavy rail and light rail?

Heavy Rail

Heavy rail refers to the rails whose nominal weight of per meter is greater than 30 kg. Heavy rail is generally classified into steel rail and crane rail. Common steel rail refers to the rails used for laying railway lines, special lines, curves and tunnel. Among all the heavy rails, the standard length is 12. 5meters and 25meters. As for laying curved curve track, there are 12.46 meters, 12.42 meters, 24.96 meters and so on.  The common size is 38, 43, 45, 50, 60 (kg / m).

Light Rail

Light rail refers to the rail of which the weight per meter is less than 30 kg. The light rails are mainly used to construct temporary hauling tracks, in forested areas, factories, mines. The size of light rail includes 6kg, 9kg, 12kg, 15kg, 22kg, 30kg, 8kg, 18kg, 24kg. The heavy rail section is heavier than light rail, capable to withstand more pressure.
